New AAD Clinical Image Collection helps enhance patient care

This year, the Academy launched the latest free member benefit, the AAD Clinical Image Collection. With the help of our members, this collection was developed in response to the lack of images of darker skin in professional education, which had been identified as a roadblock to proper treatment and medical training. To continue providing members with resources that can help with our commitment to excellence in patient care, the AAD Clinical Image Collection addresses the critical gap of images representing dermatologic diseases in all skin types and tones in professional education resources.

Thanks to submissions from over 100 AAD members, the Clinical Image Collection currently consists of over 850 diverse images, with more images being added every day. To date, hundreds of members have made use of the collection.

The ultimate goal is for the AAD Clinical Image Collection to become the largest, most-trusted source for skin disease images shown on the full range of skin tones for use in professional education material. You can help the Academy reach that goal!

Members are encouraged to submit images taken during dermatologic screenings at their practice. Your image could be used to help expand the collection for you and your fellow members!

Learn more about the collection on the AAD website and read an interview with the chair of the workgroup that helped develop it.
