Members Making a Difference Award

The Members Making a Difference award is the highest honor that a member can receive in the Academy's Volunteer Recognition Program.

About the award

One award is given quarterly to an AAD member, and the winner is profiled in Aspire Magazine. Award-winners are chosen based on the significance of the work they have done and the extraordinary/uniqueness of the volunteer activity.  All nominees will remain on the selection list for up to three years.

Nominations are accepted continuously throughout the year. View the Nominate/apply tab below for more information.

Nominees should meet all of the following criteria:

  • Significant commitment of time, energy and resources.
  • Significant benefit to others as a result of their volunteerism.
  • Extraordinary/unique volunteer activity.
  • Volunteer work is non-compensated and outside the realm of a paid position.

Selection process

The Academy Volunteerism Committee reviews all completed nominations and selects 4 winners at the Annual Meeting in March. The recipients are notified several months before their announcement in Aspire Magazine.  No sitting member on the Volunteerism Committee can be selected to receive the award.

 

The dermatologists who received this award in 2015 will be honored at the recognition reception during the Academy’s 2015 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.. The winners also will receive a plaque and be recognized in Aspire Magazine and on the AAD website.

The Members Making a Difference Award winners will be presented with a plaque during the recognition reception at the American Academy of Dermatology's 74th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C..
