Patient/public outreach
AccessDerm is an Academy-sponsored teledermatology program that allows volunteer AAD member dermatologists to provide care to underserved populations in the United States.
Camp Discovery: What would summer be without summer camp? Volunteer your time with the AAD’s summer camp program and help children with skin diseases.
Dermatology in Action: Help us reach out and make a difference in the communities we serve. Participate in this hands-on volunteer program. The project takes place during Annual Meeting on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013.
Health Volunteers Overseas: Train local health care providers, giving them the knowledge and skills to help their communities. Opportunities are available in Cambodia, Costa Rica, India and Peru.
Native American health services resident rotation: Participate in a one- to two-week rotation where residents provide dermatologic care to the Navajo Nation population, and work with primary health care providers to assist with diagnosis and management of diseases.
Resident international grant: Participate in a four- to six-week elective in Gaborone, Botswana, where residents take part in dermatologic HIV care of children and adults.
Shade structure program: Sponsor public schools and non-profit organizations in need of shade structures for outdoor locations that are not protected from the sun.
Skin cancer screening program: Conduct free skin cancer screenings in your community.
SPOT Skin Cancer™: SPOT Skin Cancer is the Academy’s national, broad-based public education initiative to harness the passion of the skin cancer community in the fight against skin cancer.
Mentor young physicians
Academic Dermatology Leadership Program: Advise young faculty members and help guide them through the early stages of teaching dermatology to students.
Diversity Mentorship program: Counsel medical students from minority backgrounds who are considering a career in dermatology.
Political advocacy
Dermatology Advocacy Network: Get up close and personal with policymakers through the AADA’s national grassroots program designed to monitor federal and state issues affecting the specialty of dermatology.
Academy committees
Academy Councils, Committees and Task Forces: Your willingness to get involved is important to the strategic direction of the AAD. The mission and activities of a committee provide leadership and direction on a variety of AAD initiatives. Volunteer for appointments.
