Inclusivity Champion toolkit

Research shows than an inclusive medical workforce strengthens patient trust, improves communication, and helps address gaps in access to care. An Inclusivity Champion is a dermatologist committed to expanding awareness of dermatology careers and removing barriers to exposure and education, particularly for students and communities with limited access to dermatology pathways.
Inclusivity Champion Nkanyezi Ferguson, MD, FAAD
Local fourth graders visited the University of Iowa to meet Dr. Nkanyezi Ferguson, MD, FAAD, who shared insights about life as a dermatologist and introduced students to career possibilities in dermatology.
These early exposure efforts help broaden understanding of the field and encourage interest among students who may not otherwise encounter dermatology as a career option.
Inclusivity Champion toolkit
The AAD has developed this toolkit to support dermatologists and others interested in serving as Inclusivity Champions by increasing early awareness and exposure to dermatology for students with limited access to medical career pathways. The toolkit includes step-by-step guidance, outreach ideas, background data, presentation templates, videos, and links to articles and additional resources to help remove structural, logistical, and informational barriers to participation.
