The International Fellow membership is for dermatologists who were trained outside the United States and Canada and have obtained board certification by a foreign dermatology board with educational and professional requirements that are approximately equivalent to the requirements for certification by the American Board of Dermatology.
International Associate membership
The International Associate membership is for dermatologists who were trained outside the United States and Canada with educational and professional requirements approximately equivalent to those qualified to take the examination by the American Board of Dermatology and must be considered a dermatologist in the country in which their dermatologic training occurred.
International Fellow or International Associate electronic membership
An electronic-only membership option is available to dermatologists who reside in a low to upper middle-income economies. The electronic option provides access to Academy membership benefits at over half the cost of the regular international membership dues. This membership offers the member rate for meeting attendance and product orders, and allows access to all online information, including the members-only section of the AAD website and the online Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD). In addition, you will receive any member benefit that can be provided electronically. If you select electronic membership, you will not receive faxes or printed materials, including JAAD, Dermatology World, and the Annual Meeting program. However, you will be able to access these publications online.

*There is a one-time $100 (USD) non-refundable application fee. New graduates who are completing residency, or complete fellowship training directly after residency, and apply the same year qualify for a discounted dues rate of $115 (USD) for the first year's dues, plus a $100 (USD) non-refundable application fee. Applications must be received by Nov. 1, in the graduating year to qualify for this discount.
Dues paid to the AADA are not deductible as a charitable contribution, but may be deductible as a business expense related to your practice, excluding the 16% of dues attributed to lobbying activities.
Application checklist
The following documentation must be submitted to the Academy before your application can be processed. Each item must be provided in English and in an 8 ½-in. x 11-in. format.
National dermatologic society membership in the country you reside: A current letter of member in good standing indicating the type of membership held within the dermatologic society.
License and diploma: Copies of license and dermatology residency diploma. Photocopies of license and diploma are acceptable. Include an English translation of both documents if applicable.
Board certification (International Fellow applicants only): A copy of your board certification (non-U.S. and non-Canadian). Certification should be approximately equivalent to certification by the American Board of Dermatology. Depending on the country, this could include examination, society membership, specific training program, etc. Board equivalency must be demonstrated for your application request to be considered for International Fellow membership. Include an English translation of this document if applicable. Your application will be delayed if this is not provided.
Curriculum vitae in English: This should include institutions attended, cumulative dates of attendance, and degrees obtained for undergraduate, graduate, residency training, and other specialty training, as well as any board certification. Also include information about institutional and academic affiliations, memberships in medical societies, or professional organizations.
