AADA hosts annual Capitol Hill skin cancer screening event
On May 10, the AADA, in conjunction with the Congressional Skin Cancer Caucus, held its Annual Congressional Skin Cancer Screening and Health Fair, which offered free skin cancer screenings to members of Congress, staff, and the public.
Over 120 attended the event. In addition, 11 AADA physician members volunteered their time to provide 87 free skin cancer screenings. Members of Congress attending the event included Reps. Donald Norcross (D-NJ), Danny Davis (D-IL), Dave Joyce (R-OH), Andy Harris, MD (R-MD), John Joyce, MD, FAAD (R-PA), Robert Aderholt (R-AL), and Aaron Bean (R-FL).
Carrie Davis, MD, FAAD, welcomed attendees and introduced special guest former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and ESPN commentator Ron Jaworski, who shared his personal experience with skin cancer and the life-saving care that he received from his dermatologist.
This event offers AADA members and allied groups the opportunity to educate attendees on public health policies that prevent skin cancer. The six partners that participated were the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association, the American Society for Mohs Surgery, the Dermatology Nurses Association, the Melanoma Research Foundation, the Melanoma Research Alliance, and the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention.
