The American Academy of Dermatology is pleased to welcome the media to the 2024 AAD Annual Meeting in San Diego. The 2024 AAD Annual Meeting will take place from March 8-12 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Press registration

Advance press registration is now closed.

You are welcome to register as press on-site.

To qualify for press credentials, all media must complete the press registration application on-site in the press office located in Room 27A at the San Diego Convention Center, 111 Harbor Dr., and submit the following:

  • Those who have attended a previous AAD scientific meeting must provide bylined samples of coverage from that meeting.

  • Those who have not attended an AAD scientific meeting must submit bylined samples of coverage of the specialty of dermatology.

  • Samples originally produced in another language must be translated to English, with a clearly denoted byline.

  • Freelance writers must provide a letter of assignment on the news organization’s letterhead. Freelance writers who have attended a previous AAD scientific meeting must provide bylined samples of coverage from that meeting in addition to their letter of assignment.

Press applications submitted without supporting documents and/or not submitted in English will not be accepted.

Please note: There is no guarantee that your press accreditation's will be approved once we review your documents.

In addition to these materials, all registrants must present photo identification, such as a driver's license or passport, when they arrive at the on-site press office.

Press office location and hours

The press office is located in Room 27A in the San Diego Convention Center.

Press office hours are as follows:
Friday, March 8: 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 9: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 10: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Monday, March 11: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Video recording is only permitted in areas designated by AAD Communications staff. Approaching meeting attendees for on-the-spot interviews is not allowed.

A video interview room, as well as additional recording spaces, will be available at the San Diego Convention Center. These locations must be reserved in advance and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can reserve these locations on site at the Press Office, Room 27A.

Equipment set-up and take-down must be completed within your reserved time-slot. Equipment cannot be stored in the Press Office.

If the designated video areas are not available during your desired interview time, please speak to AAD Communications staff.

Frequently asked questions

What is the official release time of the poster and late-breaking abstracts?
The official release time of posters is Friday, March 1, 2024, at 9 a.m. (PST). For Late-Breaking Research Session 1, the abstract content will be embargoed until 9 a.m. (PST) on Saturday, March 9, 2024. For Late-Breaking Research Session 2, the content will be embargoed until 1 p.m. (PST) on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Where can I find the handouts?
A link to the handouts will be available February 2024.

Where is the exhibit hall located?
The technical exhibits will be located in Halls A-H in the San Diego Convention Center.

Friday, March 8: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 9: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 10: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Where can I view the e-posters?
E-posters will be accessible online starting Friday, March 8. Meeting attendees may also visit the e-poster viewing stations, located at the Sail Pavilion on the second floor in the San Diego Convention Center.

Which sessions can press attend?
Registered press will have access to:

  • Focus Sessions, Symposia, and Forums after all meeting attendees have been seated.

  • Workshops and Courses after all ticketed attendees have been seated. If a ticketed event is overcrowded, entry may be prohibited due to fire code regulations.

  • Restricted Sessions except for live demonstrations or hands-on sessions. Press without a ticket may attend this session, but need to stand in the back of the room until 15 minutes after the session starts. They may then take a seat. 

  • The Plenary Session, which includes the AAD’s annual business meeting, Sunday, March 10, from 8:45 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (PST).

  • Technical Exhibits and Electronic Poster Exhibits during regular business hours.

Press are prohibited from attending:

  • Live demonstrations (C002 and C004)

  • Hands-On sessions

  • Media Training: Developing and Delivering Key Messages (C003, C006, C007 and C009)

  • AAD business/operational meetings (beyond the plenary), including Board of Directors, Advisory Board, council, committee and task force meetings, and any special meetings/forums of the AAD membership.

The AAD may restrict attendance at any session for patient confidentiality or any other reason. In such cases, registered media will be notified in advance. An attempt may be made to provide news or information from that session in an alternate manner, pending cooperation of faculty involved.

Can I take photos or record audio or video at the meeting?

  • Audio may be recorded for personal use only (i.e., for gathering information) and not for rebroadcast or reproduction. If you are recording for quotation, the speaker’s permission must be obtained in advance.

  • Registered press may conduct video interviews or live social media broadcasts as long as permission is granted by the AAD Communications Department and filming takes place in one of the designated locations indicated by Communications staff. Video areas will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; media must reserve time-slots in advance by visiting the Press Office.

  • Registered press are prohibited from taking photographs with any device in the technical exhibit hall.

  • Registered press may not photograph scientific material, including slide presentations and poster exhibits, for publication. Attendees are required to sign an attestation during registration stipulating that they agree that the photos will only be used for personal, non-commercial use.

  • Registered press are prohibited from video recording in the scientific sessions, in the technical exhibit hall or the poster exhibit area.

If you are found in violation of the rules listed above, your press credentials may be revoked.
