Learning module: Evaluation of pigmented lesions
Goals and objectives
The purpose of this module is to help medical students develop a clinical approach to the evaluation and initial management of patients with pigmented lesions.
After completing this module, the learner should be able to:
Identify morphologic features of different types of nevi
Apply concepts of “signature nevus” and “ugly duckling” sign to the evaluation of pigmented lesions
Provide patient education about sun protection and skin self-examinations
Recognize when to refer patients with pigmented lesions to a dermatologist
