Public health program partnership: AccessDerm
AccessDerm is an AAD-sponsored teledermatology platform that provides patients in underserved populations access to board-certified dermatologists at no charge. It offers provider-to-provider consults for free, increasing access for patients in rural and underserved communities. Primary care providers in participating clinics submit consultations that AAD dermatologists then receive on their personal mobile devices or the Internet via HIPAA-secure and compliant means.
Since its launch in 2018, AccessDerm now has 34 sites in 21 states and 1 in Haiti. Additionally, the program has registered more than 400 primary care physicians and 95 volunteer dermatologists who have served over 300,000 patients.
“AccessDerm offers dermatologists a convenient way to give back to their communities and put their expertise to good use by helping under-served patients. It also offers an opportunity to connect with under-resourced PCPs in your state, build collaborative relationships, teach them some basic dermatology, and demonstrate the value of our specialty’s input.”
