Sheila’s personal story

Sheila Schnauzies
I was on a one-year checkup visit from having had a basal cell carcinoma on my face when my plastic surgeon noticed my birthmark had changed. He didn't like the looks of it and scheduled a removal/biopsy procedure. That result came back as a stage I malignant melanoma.

I underwent a wide resection surgery with facial reconstruction on May 22, 2013. I have a 5-inch incision running from below my eye to my chin. I'm waiting on results from the tumor board meeting to be held next week to find out whether further treatment is required.

As a kid and as an adult I had countless severe sunburns. I'm now paying the price. You can read my entire story and see all the before/after photos in my article at www.squidoo.com/mymelanoma.
