Monica's personal story

Spot Logo
Turns out all my years getting sunburned was damaging my skin, but back then all this skin cancer was not known about. I have fair skin, blue eyes, and freckles.

I was only 27 years old. I really didn't have a support team through this, only my boyfriend. My family acted like it wasn't serious, so it was very heartbreaking to me.

I had this bump above my eye for two years I thought it was an infected hair follicle, but one day something told me to Google the symptoms and my search said it was skin cancer.

Well, I actually have three different places around my eye. Two have been cut out by a plastic surgeon. I still have the third one because I lost health insurance. I am not sure where to go for help.

Then I had pre-cancerous melanoma in three different spots on my body that they had to remove. The first day I went to see my dermatologist, she took six biopsies. It was very scary and when they told me I had cancer, I laughed and cried at the same time.

I also beat cervical cancer. Like someone said on this site, “This is my face, I only have one!” I am too young to go through all this.

Do not ever give up , fight and win!
