Carol’s personal story

Spot Logo
I went to my doctor to have a mole removed that had raised up in size. Two days after removing it, he called to tell me that I had melanoma. Before I could even comprehend what I had just found out, he said I had to have surgery to remove it, and a plastic surgeon would be contacting me within the hour.

In a matter of two days, I was in seeing a plastic surgeon and a surgeon. They scheduled me to have a local excision and a sentinel lymph node biopsy. I was very scared, and I actually thought about dying and leaving my family. I had the surgery and by the grace of God, it did not spread into my lymph nodes. They removed all the surrounding tissue. I was lucky—no chemotherapy.

I wish that I would have taken better care of my own body. Please make sure that you examine yourself monthly, and get to know your own body before something like this could happen to you.
