Jeanie’s personal story

Spot Logo
My freckled, red-headed father just might have been the inspiration for the phrase "second careering." Having graduated from UCLA in 1935, he retired from his career as an air traffic controller and administrator at age 62, returned to school to earn an LVN degree, and worked for 10 more years as a hospital nurse. He completed seven marathons in his 60s and 70s. Once he was diagnosed with melanoma, he endured three surgeries to deal with the metastases, but to no avail. Melanoma cruelly cheated our family out of our loving, energetic, and hard-working father, husband, and grandfather.
