Carol C's story

In 2006, I had a red pimple that would blister and form a crust. My family doctor zapped it, but within a year it came back. My son was ill so I ignored my issue and waited for him to get better.

Finally, went to see a skin specialist and was operated on within a week. I was shocked to learn I had cancer and thought, "Why me?" I had the "big C" word that nobody wants to hear.

I had more than 30 stitches. The cancer came back for the third time this year in February, and they tried the cryosurgery (freezing), but it did not remove it.

In all, I count myself as lucky.

My skin specialist was brief and did not answer all my questions and wanted to get an opinion from another surgeon. I am patiently waiting and scared. My nose doesn't have too much skin left and I'm wondering how many times procedures can be done in the same area. I wonder, is it spreading near my eyes or bone?

In all, I count myself as lucky, but I question if my risk is higher for other skin cancer and will it spread, especially if it's the third time.
