  • Describe concerns for physician safety when interacting with patients.
  • Recognize the legal aspects of threatening physician-patient encounters.
  • Identify techniques to prevent or deescalate such potentially dangerous situations in the health care setting.

Description

Assaults and threats are pervasive occupational hazards for the health care professional. Seventy- five percent of the 25,000 work place assaults reported annually, occur in healthcare settings. Physicians can take steps to make themselves and their employees less vulnerable.
