FOC U020 - Update in Molecular Diagnostic Tests in Dermatology and Dermatopathology

Open admission to eligible categories, no tuition or ticket

Subject:

Date: Saturday, August 03

CME Credits: 1.50

Location: Beekman

Time: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM

Director: Pedram Gerami, MD, FAAD

Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Discuss newly described low and high penetrant familial melanoma syndromes and their associations.
  • Identify key somatic mutations in melanoma and their therapeutic and prognostic significance.
  • Recognize new molecular diagnostic tests for dermatologists such as the tape stripping method.

Description:
This session will cover recent updates in molecular discoveries involving germline, somatic and copy number aberrations in melanoma and nevi. Further, we will discuss how this information can be exploited and molecular tests which can be utilized to help optimize diagnosis of melanocytic neoplasms. Also, we will discuss the prognostic potential of these same tests. The session will emphasize molecular diagnostics in dermatopathology using comparative genomic hybridization and fluorescence in situ hybridization for identifying spitzoid melanocytic neoplasms with potential for aggressive clinical behavior.
