Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Determine which tests need to be ordered to diagnose blistering disease correctly
  • Develop algorithms for how to treat AIBD patients
  • Explain safety measures to patients to minimize complications

Cases in which the diagnosis is initially unclear and further unusual investigations are needed to uncover the correct diagnosis will be discussed. Pemphigus vulgaris cases that are recalcitrant to high dose corticosteroids - what should we do? When should we choose rituximab? What about IVIG? Should you stop treatment if the ELISA titer is high but the patient appears to be in remission on minimal therapy? How can we prevent infections in patients with AIBD on immunosuppressive therapy?
