Controversies in "Dysplastic" Nevi
Ticket required for admission, no tuition fee. Ticket holds seat for only 15 minutes after the official start time.
Sunday, August 19
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Payam Abrishami, MD, FAAD
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Develop a clear system for classification and treatment of melanocytic nevi.
- Recognize clues for the diagnosis of subtle melanomas.
- Summarize the criteria for "congenital" and "lentiginous" pattern nevi.
Original photomicrographs are used to illustrate the histologic findings that some describe as "dysplastic", "atypical" or "architecturally disordered". These concepts will be explored in historical context. The speaker will illustrate how these lesions are a mixed group of lesions, better classified as "lentiginous pattern" nevi, "congenital pattern" nevi, combined nevi, and melanomas. This session will promote a new direction in the understanding and naming of these common melanocytic proliferations and will reduce the ambiguity present in the mainstream system.
