Learning Objectives

Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Manage patients with urticaria, especially chronic urticaria
  • Distinguish between antihistamine types and describe how to utilize antihistamines most effectively to treat urticaria
  • Develop a treatment plan for patients with antihistamine resistant chronic urticaria


This session will focus on the treatment of urticaria as recommended in recently updated guidelines, with a special focus on the treatment of chronic urticaria. Types of antihistamines available for treatment and their mechanism of action will be discussed as well as ways to maximize their effectiveness in controlling urticaria. The options available for treatment of antihistamine resistant cases of chronic urticaria will be presented along with evidence for each option's effectiveness
