U063 - Comorbidities in Psoriasis: What a Dermatologist Needs to Know

Sunday, February 18; 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Learning Objectives

Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Discuss the known comorbidities associated with psoriatic diseases
  • Examine the cardiovascular and metabolic risks in psoriasis
  • Determine if treatments or lifestyle changes can modify comorbid risks

Psoriasis is a systemic inflammatory disease and studies have shown links with a variety of comorbid conditions. We will discuss the incidence and pathophysiology of the most common comorbidities such as: cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and depression. We will also review newer associations that have been recently discovered. Dr. Mehta will show body PET scans and coronary CT scans then discuss risk factors for cardiovascular disease including screening suggestions for our patients. We will discuss health and lifestyle changes that may reduce or modify these comorbidities.
