Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Apply photodocumentation in clinical practice more effectively and efficiently.
- Assess the risks and benefits of photography and digital imaging in various clinical settings.
- Examine the clinical implications of recent developments in digital skin imaging and computer science.
This session will review exciting recent developments in skin imaging and computer science and their implications for improved documentation and clinical care. We will discuss the inherent value of photographic documentation in a visual specialty like dermatology and analyze the challenges that have impeded the incorporation of digital imaging into routine dermatology workflows. We will review the full gamut of imaging technologies from total body photography to individual lesion imaging including digital dermoscopic monitoring. We will summarize the current state of artificial intelligence as aid to photodocumentation and as a tool for diagnosis of dermatologic images. We will also address the medico-legal and privacy aspects of photodocumentation.
