Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Define the indications and perioperative management of common procedures in nail surgery
  • Manage patients with ingrown toenails with little invasive treatment options
  • Diagnose and treat benign and malignant tumors of the nail apparatus

Dermatologists often perform surgical procedures on the nail apparatus. This forum will discuss techniques for the treatment of ingrown toenails, which is one of the most common problems encountered. Furthermore, taking biopsies of pigmented lesions without causing permanent nail dystrophy will be demonstrated. The surgical treatment of some benign tumors of the nail apparatus will be shown as well as surgery of malignant melanoma and Mohs surgery of the nail apparatus. This session includes tips and tricks for local anesthesia and perioperative management. Presentation format includes lecture, discussion, and video presentation of some surgical techniques.
