Birthmarks: Which Ones to Worry About
Sunday, March 23
Mile High Ballroom 3A
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Tor A. Shwayder, MD, FAAD - Handout
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Analyze congenital nevi and design appropriate diagnostic algorithms and treatment options.
- Distinguish various types of hemangiomas and vascular malformations, their attendant complications, and treatment options.
- Identify epidermal hamartomas and congenital skin aplasias, their malignant potential, and treatment options.
Come with me on an adventure to analyze the many and varied spots with which kids are born. Learn to distinguish those with systemic associations or malignancies, and those that do not. We will journey via congenital nevi, café au lait macules, hemangiomas, port wine stains, light spots, whorls and swirls ending up with epidermal nevi and aplasia cutis congenita. Systemic associations and treatment options will be discussed for all topics. You will be adequately armed to answer the parent's query "Doctor, should I be worried?"
