Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Diagnose the different dermatoses that present in the face
  • Formulate a treatment strategy for treatment of facial dermatoses including subtypes of rosacea
  • Discuss etiologic factors related to the development of rosacea and the role of demodex mites

This session will consist of a review of the common facial dermatoses with special emphasis on rosacea and other dermatoses that cause facial erythema. The clinical features of the dermatoses will be demonstrated by patient examples and the approach to the investigation and diagnosis outlined. Treatment strategies will be suggested. The session will finish with a discussion of the etiologic factors postulated for rosacea with special emphasis on the possible role of demodex mites in the causation of this disorder.
