Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Use the JID Connector as a resource for basic science didactics
  • Assess widely-employed laboratory assays and research methodologies
  • Prepare a new Research Techniques Made Simple article as part of a team including a trainee, a content expert, and a clinician educator

To enhance scientific literacy among dermatologists, the Journal of Investigative Dermatology has created the JID Connector, a collection of online only features freely available to all (http://www.nature.com/jid/jid-connector/index.html). Among these are the Research Techniques Made Simple (RTMS) articles that briefly describe a widely used assay or research methodology, its strengths and limitations, with examples from the literature. This session will illustrate how the RTMS articles and other Connector features can enrich basic science didactic sessions and improve comprehension of research articles. Attendees will be invited to prepare future RTMS articles as part of an authorship team.
