Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Recognize the different fillers used internationally and what they mean when they become available in the United States.
  • Identify the areas where such fillers may be injected in addition to potential pitfalls.
  • Compare the different fillers available based on their physical and mechanical characteristics.

Most of the fillers used in the United States have been approved many years ago worldwide. Some such agents will be made available soon after passing through FDA's stringent criteria. These will include hyaluronic acid based agents in addition to novel materials such as polycaprolactone. It is important to be aware of such materials before they are made readily available. This will provide great knowledge in knowing what to expect and the pitfalls that these agents might have.
