Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Develop an approach to evaluating a patient with contact dermatitis and utilize patch testing for management
  • Recognize common allergen groups that can cause allergic contact dermatitis

This session will focus on the basics of contact dermatitis, including the initial approach to the patient, diagnosis and basic patch testing. There will be a discussion on how to counsel patients in the patch test clinic. Contact dermatitis in the pediatric population will be reviewed. In addition, allergic contact dermatitis to common allergens such as preservatives, fragrances and metals will be highlighted.
