Hyperhidrosis and Hypertrichosis in Children and Adolescents
Saturday, March 02
7:15 AM - 8:45 AM
Jane S. Bellet, MD, FAAD - Handout
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Assess a pediatric patient with hyperhidrosis and select appropriate treatment.
- Diagnose and manage hypertrichosis.
- Determine whether an endocrinologic evaluation is necessary in the setting of hypertrichosis.
This session will review two relatively common conditions in children and adolescents: hyperhidrosis and hypertrichosis. An approach towards management of primary focal hyperhidrosis, with particular attention to techniques and considerations for younger patients will be discussed. In addition, issues of hypertrichosis will be reviewed: how to diagnose and manage, including isolated hypertrichosis; whether an endocrinologic evaluation is needed; and hair emanating from nevi.
