Educate Your Patients & Improve Outcomes
Monday, March 04
3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Karen E. Edison, MD, FAAD - Handout
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- 1. Anticipate potential compliance failures more effectively.
- 2. Utilize resources designed to improve patient understanding.
- 3. Integrate evidence-based communication skills into practice.
The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred.” Although George Bernard Shaw pointed this out nearly a century ago, recent findings show that we should heed Shaw’s warning when we talk to our patients. According to a recent study, over three quarters of physicians believed patients knew their diagnosis; however, when asked, only slightly over half of patients actually did. This session will introduce evidence-based tools and techniques to improve dermatologist/patient communication and efficiently check and correct patient understanding; coupled with effective strategies to integrate these tools and techniques into daily practice.
