CME Credits: 2.00

Location: Room C223/224

Time: 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Director: Rochelle R. Torgerson, MD, PhD, FAAD

Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Identify the prototypical patient with burning mouth syndrome and recognize common oral diseases in the differential diagnosis.
  • Formulate a thorough but focused evaluation for patients presenting with a burning mouth.
  • Implement a stepwise, multimodal treatment plan for managing patients with primary burning mouth syndrome.

Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) falls within the purview of oral dermatology. Nonetheless, patients with BMS are often avoided or approached with trepidation by dermatologists. This session will provide a structured approach to recognizing diagnosing and managing patients with BMS. It will increase the efficiency and proficiency of dermatologists currently treating patients with BMS. It will also provide a sufficient knowledge base to allow those not treating patients with BMS to begin doing so in a rewarding manner.
