Use of Physician Extenders
Friday, March 01
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
David Michael Pariser, MD, FAAD
- Paul R. Bergstresser, MD, FAAD
- Suzanne Olbricht, MD, FAAD
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- 1. Analyze the issues related to the use of non-physician clinicians in the practice of dermatology.
- 2. Avoid common ethical and medico-legal pitfalls in the use of non-physician clinicians.
- 3. Improve level of training and supervision of non-physician clinicians.
Health care reform and the increasing demand for dermatologic services and the undersupply of dermatologists nationwide has contributed to the rapid expansion of use of non-physician clinicians in the practice of dermatology. Speakers in this forum will discuss how non-physician clinicians are trained, supervised and how they are best used in a dermatology practice and what pitfalls to avoid. The discussion will primarily concern licensed Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners but will also address the use of non-licensed personnel as well. The forum is applicable to any practicing dermatologist or non-physician clinician.
