Earn CMEs with complimentary Fundamentals of Teledermatology course

I’m delighted to announce the upcoming launch of the Fundamentals of Teledermatology course in the Academy’s Online Learning Center (OLC). This complimentary course is made up of four modules with a brief quiz. CME credit will be provided to those that achieve a 70 percent passing score.

The curriculum was originally designed for resident education. However, it is also a valuable course for established dermatologists who wish to learn more about incorporating telemedicine into their practice. For practicing teledermatologists, the curriculum offers legislative updates and an ethics module to hone existing skills.

AAD's free Fundamentals of Teledermatology will be available in the Online Learning Center on Feb. 28, 2017. 

Fundamentals of Teledermatology will be launched in the OLC by February 28 in conjunction with the Academy’s Annual Meeting in Orlando.

The Young Physicians Telemedicine Engagement and Education Workgroup, a workgroup under the Telemedicine Task Force, was charged with developing the comprehensive teledermatology curriculum. This curriculum educates members on the basics of teledermatology delivery, the medico-legal and legislative landscape, utilization, and ethics.

Telemedicine technologies can allow remote interfacing in a secure and HIPAA compliant manner for providers with patients who require health care at home and in other settings. Telehealth interactions between providers and patients and their families can offer a wide scope of services in a responsive, effective, efficient, and patient-centered manner.

Teledermatology is a powerful healthcare delivery tool that improves patient access to our specialty and improves our workforce productivity. These technologies are increasingly applied to diverse patient populations and settings. The aim of this curriculum and other resources in the Teledermatology Toolkit is to familiarize dermatologists with teledermatology and equip them with the basic skills to provide high quality care in this connected, digital healthcare environment.
