As of Oct. 1, 2013, individuals without health care can enroll in state-based health insurance exchanges. As part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), states are required to provide Health Insurance Marketplaces where individuals without health care and small businesses can compare and enroll in various health insurance options. Coverage for both individuals and small businesses will start on Jan. 1, 2014. Read about your state’s plan on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ website.
