Hurricane Irma, Harvey relief

As the country begins efforts to recover from the unprecedented occurrence of two historic hurricanes in as many weeks, the thoughts and prayers of the American Academy of Dermatology Board of Directors and members are with our affected colleagues and the communities they serve. The Academy’s Board of Directors will mobilize dermatology community donations for Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey disaster relief as well as providing support to impacted members.

Donate to humanitarian efforts

The Academy is providing a matching fund donation program to allow AAD members and staff to collectively contribute to disaster relief for Hurricane Irma and Harvey. The Academy will match, up to a total AAD donation of $100,000, all member donations made to the organizations listed below by September 30 for Irma or Harvey relief.

Harvey relief

  • Gulf Coast United Way
  • American Red Cross
  • Houston Food Bank
  • Greater Houston Community Foundation

Irma relief

  • American Red Cross

If you have already contributed to a qualified organization for the Hurricane Irma or Harvey relief effort, you may provide the Academy with proof of your donation and it will be included in the amount to be matched.

Member loan assistance

If you’ve been impacted by either Hurricane Irma or Harvey, help is available through the Academy in the form of low interest loans. AAD member licensed dermatologists and dermatology residents who sustained physical damage not covered by insurance are eligible to apply for a low interest loans. Dermatologists can apply for up to $25,000 and graduate members (residents and fellows) may apply for up to $5,000 each. The Academy has set aside up to $300,000 for this effort.

The Academy is sensitive to the suffering and damage these events have caused — and although we still do not know the full damage, we know that it will take all of us to help both regions recover.
