The Academy’s online Buyer’s Guide is a continuously updated listing of vendors that supply products and services to the dermatology specialty. As a devoted list maker, I, for one, really appreciate knowing that this is all organized for me both online and in this handy print version. I love that I can pass through the exhibit halls just looking, without needing to hold on to every single business card I am given. While my parents would probably have felt it was imperative to keep each card that they would be handed, I am happy to report that I have sworn off their pack rat approach. But make no mistake about it, having the information is very helpful WHEN you need it. So I am very pleased to remind you that each spring the Academy publishes a print version of the online Buyer’s Guide, which I hope you find helpful. We also put this, like all of our other Derm World editions, on the website, so that you can access it at any time during the year. So if your surgical light breaks in April right after the meeting, no worries. You can simply look up the various vendors and get quotes for its replacement.

However, no publication is ever complete without a column or two! The staff and I thought that this would be a good opportunity to discuss electronic health records. Shopping for the perfect system seems to me to be a bit like looking for a perfect gift always a little daunting. But I think that you will like some of what we review the tips on features to consider, how to think ahead for possible future growth and needs of your practice, as well as how to adjust to an EHR when the choice is out of your control.

Organization can be so helpful, but often goes by the wayside because of time constraints ... those good ideas never completed. So think of this Buyer’s Guide as your personal Rolodex, just more complete then any I’d assemble. If you know of a company that isn’t listed here, but should be, ask them to go to the electronic listing at www.aaddermatologybuyersguide.com and input their company profile.

Enjoy your reading — and your shopping!
