Changes ahead for meaningful use 
On April 11, CMS released a proposed rule that would make significant changes to meaningful use, including changing the reporting period to 90 days in 2015 as well as removing several core and menu set measures from the program and reducing the reporting thresholds for other measures.

In a victory for dermatologists and the entire house of medicine, the Senate passed the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, clearing the way for a law that permanently repeals the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula and restores global codes.

CMS heeds AADA’s call for directory accuracy in Medicare Advantage plans
On April 6, 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released its final rule for 2016 Medicare Advantage plans. The AADA led the way and urged CMS to ensure network directories are accurate and up-to-date and CMS heeded that call and is mandating plans maintain accurate directories and identify a process to help patients who have been denied access to contracted providers.

Academy seeks MOC changes
On April 2, the Academy Board of Directors sent a letter asking ABD to modify current MOC requirements.

Mark Lebwohl, MD, FAAD, assumes presidency of the AAD
Dr. Lebwohl assumed office at the conclusion of the Academy’s 73rd Annual Meeting in San Francisco. He will hold office for one year and also will hold the same position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association.

Timothy G. Berger, MD, FAAD, takes office as vice president of the AAD
Dr. Berger is a clinical dermatology professor at the University of California in San Francisco. 

CMS acts to erase dermatologists' concerns on EHR reporting requirements
Responding to pressure from the AADA and its coalition partners, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced its intent to modify the meaningful use requirements for electronic health records (EHR). Read more.

HHS announces major changes to Medicare reimbursement 
The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary today unveiled plans to shift 30 percent of Medicare provider payments out of a fee-for-service system and into alternative payment models by 2016 — and eventually 50 percent by 2018. Read more.
