Debra L. Gist, MPH, named Director of Education of the AAD
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (July 23, 2010) —The American Academy of Dermatology (Academy) recently welcomed Debra L. Gist, MPH, as the director of education. In her new role, Gist will lead the educational initiatives of the largest medical society, representing physicians specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of hair, skin and nail conditions.
“With her more than 20 years of experience in continuing medical education, Debbie will be an asset to the Academy’s members as we work to meet their professional education needs,” said Ronald A. Henrichs, CAE, executive director and CEO of the Academy. “Her expertise and experience in educational needs assessment, educational design and evaluation, and compliance with ACCME criteria, policies and standards will be crucial as the Academy moves forward with multiple strategic initiatives to serve our members and advance the specialty of dermatology.”
While at the Academy, Gist will oversee all education activities related to providing targeted, high-quality and relevant continuing medical education (CME) to assist Academy members in optimizing their clinical practice experience as they meet the needs of a changing and challenging health care environment. She also will oversee the activities of the Academy’s Council on Education.
Prior to joining the Academy, Gist was a CME consultant to a variety of organizations, including the American College of Cardiology and Duke University School of Medicine. She had previously served as Duke’s director of the office of continuing medical education from 2001 to 2005. Prior to her career at Duke, Gist served as the senior consultant and continuing education administrator at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego. She received her bachelor’s degree and master of public health degree from San Diego State University.
Gist is a fellow of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education and serves as an assistant editor of its publication, Almanac. She also has served as an ACCME site surveyor, and has written and presented extensively on CME issues.
