  • Distinguish conditions that closely mimic NF1.
  • Formulate a management plan for patients with NF1 or cafe-au-lait macules.

Description:
Café-Au-Lait macules are a common indication for dermatology referral. This session will review the clinical spectrum, natural history and management of hyperpigmented macules. Diagnostic features that distinguish Neurofibromatosis Type I (e.g., plexiform neurofibroma and recognizable bone changes) will be presented. Using examples, disorders frequently confused with NF1 will be highlighted. Current concepts and resources relevant to care of NF1 patients will be provided. Genetic testing for borderline cases such as segmental NF1 will be discussed.
