Description:
The skin has been referred to as “the largest sex organ in the body.” This session will explore ways in which sexual behavior and customs affect the skin, and discuss inflammatory and traumatic skin diseases that can result from customary and nontraditional sexual practices including body adornment methods to enhance physical appeal. In addition, best-practice evaluation and treatment of the mucocutaneous manifestations of the more than 25 infections that can be sexually-transmitted will be reviewed. Cases from a dermatology department staffed STD clinic, a main source of referral of the NYC Health Department, will be presented and discussed.
