Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- List items that are needed to prepare for a volunteer trip abroad.
- Select a volunteer activity that matches the skill set of the attendee.
- Predict the pitfalls to avoid when volunteering abroad.
Description:
This session will describe international medical humanitarian programs and provide practical information to help the attendee prepare for this type of experience. Issues that will be reviewed include the state of health care in developing countries, how to select the right program, preparing yourself and your family, staying safe, how to work with limited resources and formularies, cultural competence, working with local physicians and how to add significance to your life and that of your family.
