Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Formulate a framework of cutaneous diseases that are associated with an underlying plasma cell dyscrasia.
- Recognize unique and recently described entities associated with plasma cell dyscrasias, and discuss important advances in current understanding and evaluation of these diseases
- Discuss therapeutic options as well as the dermatologist’s role in the patient care team
Description:
A number of dermatologic disorders occur as a manifestation of an underlying plasma cell dyscrasia. This session aims to increase recognition of these diseases which will be discussed in a case-based format emphasizing clinical/pathologic features pertinent to accurate diagnosis. Laboratory evaluation, advances in current understanding of these disorders, and therapeutic options will be discussed. The dermatologist’s role in the patient care team ranges from limited to involved care provider, and this role will be noted in the discussion of the various disease entities. This session is directed at practicing dermatologists and those in training.
