Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Recognize the wide variety of suturing techniques that are available to the dermatologic surgeon.
- Identify innovative and uncommon suturing techniques that have great utility and purpose depending on the nature of the defect and closure type.
- Develop the confidence to try new suturing techniques to decrease surgical complications and improve surgical outcomes.
Description:
This session will focus on the breadth of stitching techniques,
including standard stitches that can be improved with slight
variations, less well-known stitches that are of great utility, and
innovative stitches that have promise to become standard stitches as
their utility is realized. The stitching techniques will adhere to
the principles of providing excellent wound edge eversion, maximizing
wound edge blood supply, minimizing tension at defect edges, and
optimizing surface stitching techniques for excellent cosmetic results.
