Learning Objectives:
Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Recognize the presentation of skin cancer in various clinic scenarios of systemic immunosuppression
- Formulate a therapeutic strategy for non-surgical treatment of skin cancer utilizing recent drug advances
- Select the best use for sentinel lymph node biopsy in the management of melanoma
Description:
This symposium addresses the therapeutic challenges of treating high risk skin cancer in the setting of immunocompromise, e.g. solid organ and bone marrow transplantation and with the use of biologic therapies, for both the medical dermatologist and dermatological surgeon. Use of non-surgical interventions, including PDT and recent advances in drug therapies for skin cancer will be outlined. An up-to-date review of sentinel lymph node biopsy and its use in the treatment of melanoma will also be discussed.
