Medical Informatics
About Medical Informatics at the Academy
Medical informatics (MI) is the fusion of health care knowledge and information technology knowledge to improve patient care. The American Medical Informatics Association states that medical informatics "has to do with all aspects of understanding and promoting the effective organization, analysis, management, and use of information in health care".
The Academy's Medical Informatics Committee is responsible for promoting and advancing the medical informatics agenda for dermatology, including the provision of expert advice in support of clinical decision support systems, health terminology and classification systems (i.e., a dermatology lexicon, DermLexTM), electronic medical records, teledermatology, patient registries and digital libraries.
