Q: Will CMS continue to make coding updates in advance of the ICD-10 compliance deadline?

A: CMS has announced that it will allow limited code updates to ICD-10 code sets. These updates will capture new technologies and diagnoses and will be released in the Oct. 1, 2015, code set release. However, there will be no updates to ICD-9-CM, as it will no longer be used for reporting after Oct. 1, 2015. Regular updates to the ICD-10 code set will resume on Oct. 1, 2016, one year after implementation of ICD-10.
