As we all know, patient education is essential to the effective management of psoriasis. That’s why I’m delighted to announce an engaging, new resource available at no cost through the Academy.

The Academy, with funding from Celgene Corporation, has produced  Psoriasis: A Guide for Patients, an unbranded, 14-minute DVD with companion guidebook. The video is also available in the new psoriasis video library section on the Academy website. The video was also broadcast by select  CBS television affiliates during commercial-free airtime in May.

As the consulting dermatologist on the project, I’m featured throughout the video, explaining the disease, treatment options, and the importance of consulting with a dermatologist to manage the condition. The video educates patients on treating and coping with psoriasis through interviews with me and several psoriasis patients, including Jerry Mather, who starred as Beaver in Leave it to Beaver.

The free DVD will be available at no cost at the Summer Academy Meeting, Aug. 6 – 10, in Chicago. To pick up your copy, stop by the Academy’s resource center (booth 1905) in the exhibit hall. The DVD offers an excellent opportunity to educate patients in your waiting room.

The Academy has also made it easy for you to share the information through its website. Simply direct patients to the video library page, which features the video in easy to follow segments.

These videos greatly add to the Academy’s public education efforts. I hope all members take advantage of this free, powerful, and engaging program.
