The World Health Organization (WHO) ICD-11-CM is now available for review and comment.

The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AADA) signed on to a letter from the American Medical Association (AMA) urging the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to eliminate the implementation of the new patient diagnosis coding set ICD-10, and delay any mandatory transition until the ICD-11 coding set. CMS declined the request, indicating that the one-year extension through Sept. 30, 2014, offers providers a sufficient amount of time to transition to the new coding set.

The WHO is providing experts in the public health community who work with patient diagnosis and treatment with the opportunity to contribute to the development of the next version of the ICD. The final ICD-11-CM will be released in 2015.
