Get Involved in Leadership, Mentoring and Volunteer Opportunities in Dermatology
There are many ways you can give back to the profession of dermatology while taking advantage of leadership opportunities that provide you with valuable networking and career-development opportunities. Programs and Opportunities
- Making a Difference Award. The highest honor for a volunteer to receive in the Academy's Leadership Circle for Volunteerism is the "Members Making a Difference Award." This Award is based on cumulative volunteer service.
- Academy Community Programs include Camp Discovery, the Skin Cancer Screening Program, and Academy Shade Structure Grants.
- Diversity Medical Student Mentorship: Information for Mentors on how to mentor a medical student in the American Academy of Dermatology's Diversity Mentorship Program.
- Diversity Medical Student Mentorship: Information for Students on how to apply to the American Academy of Dermatology's Diversity Mentorship Program.
- Gifts-in-Kind/Donation Programs The Academy provides National Library of Dermatologic Teaching Slides to institutions in developing countries and coordinates a program for members to make donations of previously owned educational materials such as books and journals.
- International Opportunities and Resources include teledermatology, grant programs and opportunities to volunteer your time and expertise.
- Leadership Forum is a highly interactive weekend that will provide an opportunity to advance your leadership and communication skills while networking with colleagues and Academy Leaders.
- Academic Dermatology Leadership Program (ADLP) is available to academic dermatologists who have expressed a strong commitment to the field and are recognized as emerging leaders in academic dermatology.
Volunteer Recognition
The Academy recognizes volunteers through its Leadership Circle for Volunteerism Program. Members who volunteer can submit their activities and once they accumulate over 100 hours they will be recognized as members of the Leadership Circle.
The Members Making a Difference Award Program is a way for the Academy to recognize members who give back to dermatology through volunteer service.
