Academic Dermatology Leadership Program

The Academic Dermatology Leadership Program (ADLP) is available to academic dermatologists who have expressed strong commitment to the field and are recognized as emerging leaders in academic dermatology. The ADLP was designed to be an extremely comprehensive program and it requires a full-year commitment. By applying for this program, you are agreeing to participate in all programs and activities as outlined below:

  • Attend on-site (mandatory) meetings, including:
    • A half day during the 2010 Annual Meeting.
    • The Leadership Forum (Jan. 29-31, 2010- InterContinental Montelucia located near Phoenix, Ariz.).
    • A half day during the 2010 Summer Academy.
  • Develop a relationship with the mentor you have selected to assist, advise, and guide you throughout the year.
  • Particpate in active study in the Academic Dermatology Leadership Program, which includes the use of an online learning component designed to be an engaging resource for fostering management skills. Topics address a full spectrum of issues faced by new and experienced managers. The time commitment for this activity is about 15 hours per quarter.

If your schedule will not allow you to fully participate in the ADLP, you might prefer to apply for the Leadership Forum.

Eligibility for the Academic Dermatology Leadership Program

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member of the AAD in good standing.
  • Have eight years or less since completing residency/fellowship training.
  • Must have completed residency training in dermatology.
  • Have never attended a Leadership Forum in the past (applicants for the Academic Program may have attended a past Leadership Forum).
  • (ADLP only) Must be devoting at least 75 percent of his or her professional time to academics.
  • Only U.S./Canadian travel to the on-site meetings is reimbursed.

  • Online Application: The application process for the 2010 Academic Dermatology Leadership Program is now closed.
  • In addition to your completed application, you also must submit one letter of recommendation from an individual who can speak to your professional commitment and an executive CV (limited to no more than three pages).
