There are six main categories of membership. Please review the information below to determine if you qualify and which category of Academy membership best suits your qualifications.
Types of Membership
Fellow (U.S. and Canadian only)
Certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. More information
Associate (U.S. and Canadian only)
Completed residency training in dermatology that permits eligibility to become certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology and/or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. More information
NOTE: If you are continuing your training in a fellowship program, you do not need to apply for membership. Your complimentary Graduate Member Status will continue through completion of your fellowship training.
International Fellow (Dermatologists outside the U.S. and Canada)
Dermatologists who reside outside the United States or Canada who have obtained board certification equivalent to that of the American Board of Dermatology or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. More information
Affiliate
Affiliate membership is available to individuals who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- DO's certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology
- Dermatopathologists who are Board-Certified in Dermatopathology and are not eligible to be a Fellow or Associate member. Please see Affiliate link for further clarification.
- MD's who are certified in dermatology by a non-U.S. or non-Canadian board
Adjunct
Adjunct membership is available to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:
- Researchers, including PhD holders and other scientists devoting a major portion of their time to dermatologic research and/or education in academic medical centers, teaching hospitals or industry settings.
- Veterinarians specializing in veterinary dermatology.
Corporate Individual
Corporate Individual membership is available to individuals on a director level or higher whose careers are devoted to dermatology and whose company is in the Academy's Corporate Partner Recognition Program. More information
